How to Make Color Bursts

This craft is a great way to teach children about how colors combine.

You will need:

Food coloring (4 colors)

Muffin tin

round coffee filters

string

small clothespins

Steps to Make Color Bursts

  1. Take the muffin tin and mix food coloring and water in each of the four corners. These will be the dipping areas. Add as much or little food coloring to the water to make it as dark as you wish.
  2. Take a coffee filter and open it out flat. It now needs to be folded in half approximately 3 times.
  3. Now there are three points on the folded filter. Quickly dip each corner into a different color food color solution. This has to happen very fast because the water (and color) will move across the paper faster than you think.
  4. Unfold the coffee filter and allow it to dry.
  5. Repeat with several filters, experimenting with different combination of colors.
  6. Hang the filters up on a string with the clothespins and enjoy the color bursts!
