Character Education: Setting Priorities

Many public and private schools make a big deal about “Character education”. Homeschool parents have a distinct advantage in this area as individual beliefs and specific important character traits can be taught and reinforced on a daily basis and with real life examples.

The first step towards introducing character education at home is to set priorities. It may be helpful to sit down together with you spouse and make a list of the character traits that are important to your family. Listing these traits on paper will help you focus on your character priorities.

Once these priorities are set, it is time to make a specific plan to purposefully teach each child the importance of these character traits.
