Character Education: a Parent’s Job

While schools are making a big deal about introducing character education into the school curriculum, this is not the school’s job. Unfortunately schools have seen their students come year after year getting less and less character training at home and stepped in to fill that void in order to make school a safe place and continue to be able to provide a descent education.

The bottom line in character education is that this training needs to start from a very young age. In fact, children understand some basic character traits (such as obedience) before their first birthday.

Parents need to start from the earliest days of their child’s life, molding and training the child to be polite, to obey those in authority, to be respectful of others and more. When these basic skills are absent from a child or even an adult, others do not enjoy being around them, and life can be rather miserable for all.
